In 2011, Revise worked in partnership with the University of Derby to embed new skills and procedures in order to achieve legal compliance as part of a Hazardous Waste Management Audit.
The University of Derby produces a wide range of different waste streams, and some of these wastes are hazardous in nature. The Audit undertaken by Revise aimed to assess the various hazardous wastes being produced by the University and to provide a better understanding on legal compliance, the waste management processes and the contractual arrangement that different facilities and departments at the University have.
A detailed review of the hazardous wastes produced across the University was undertaken. This included a comprehensive assessment of the activities that produce hazardous waste, identification of the different locations and activities producing hazardous waste, and a review of the current procedures and practices for hazardous waste handling, storage and collection.
Following the project, the University is now in a strong position to ensure full Hazardous Waste compliance going forward, and ensure best practice in hazardous waste management is achieved. In addition, the Audit has provided the University with an excellent opportunity to assess it waste management in line with contract consolidation and cost efficiency solutions.
The project was also undertaken to ensure outcomes aligned with the requirements of the EcoCampus Environmental Management System which the University is currently progressing through. Following the initial Audit, Revise continued to work closely with the University to develop procedural guidance documents, which were specifically designed to meet and exceed the requirements of the EcoCampus requirements, in addition to meeting the bespoke requirements of the University’s specific departments.
“Revise was appointed in 2011 to undertake a Hazardous Waste Audit of the University of Derby’s Tutorial Sites. The work completed was of a high standard, tailored to the individual needs of each site and provided detailed, yet straight forward recommendations to ensure compliance and improvement. I was impressed at all times by their professionalism and knowledge of both the sector and audit topic and would not hesitate in recommending them to others.”
